Everybody I know who is working on a magnetic photo album has one thing in common. They’re behind on their scrapbooks! Photographs pile up in shoe boxes or on the PC till the task appears too frightening to even begin. I’m taking virtually two thousand footage a year, and while they do not all make it into a scrapbook if I did not keep up it might be most unlikely to catch up. When I create my scrapbook layouts, I use many things : photographs, paper / stickers / gildings and tools. At one time I had a whole room devoted to scrapbooking. I had three tables set up so that I’d have room when friends came over. I had a closet full of scrapbooks and supplies. I believed if I could leave everything out it would not be so long.
I was wrong. Each time I needed to make a layout, I had to go thru my pictures to find the ones I needed to use.
Then I had to go thru folders of papers and boxes of scraps to see what would go well with the footage. Then I’d go thru my binder of stickers and my drawers of elaborations ( eyelets, buttons, for example. ). Then I’d pull tools out of my bag. Eventually I was prepared to work on my page! On a good day, I could finish a single double-page layout in roughly an hour. I began to think about that after I had my 2nd baby. How was I ever going to keep abreast of a scrapbook photograph album, I will grab the folder, pens and cutters. Everything I need is at my fingertips. I will attend a crop with no need to bring everything I own. I now keep my tools and pens in a big bag so I’m able to pull it out simply.
The old scrapbooking room is now a playroom for my kids. Breaking the method into these steps keeps things easy and makes it straightforward to work a little at a time – which is all I have some time to do!
